About the Microwave Vegetable Steamer in Lakeside Blue
Our microwave steamer is an easy way to introduce quick, healthy options to your meals and a reminder of how tasty vegetables can be with simple preparation. Add your favorite vegetable (or veggie medley), along with 1-2 tablespoons of water (or broth) in the bottom and replace the lid. While cooking in the microwave, the vegetables are steamed evenly as the closed top recirculates heat and the holes allow excess steam to escape. Once bright and tender, the veggies are ready to serve. For additional flavor, add a small pinch of salt, pepper, lemon, butter, garlic, olive oil, chili oil, sesame oil, or your favorite spice before serving.
Best of all, the Vegetable Steamer is handcrafted of durable, high-fired stoneware pottery that is safe for microwave cooking (unlike many plastics) and easy to clean. Made by hand in Texas, the dish is also safe for the dishwasher and the American-made color glazes are lead-free and cadmium-free. Instructions included.
Cook Time: The cook time will vary, depending on types of vegetables, thickness of the vegetables, and power of the microwave (for example, potatoes will take longer than green beans). Two to five minutes is common for most vegetables. Root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, beets) may take longer than other common vegetables.
Caution: The vegetable steamer will remain hot after microwaving. Use hotpads, potholders, or similar to handle the dish and place on a heat resistant surface.
What vegetables should I try? The steamer is ideal for most vegetables. To begin, try green beans, broccoli, asparagus, sliced potatoes, brussels sprouts, or a medley of vegetables. As the process becomes familiar, you may also try leafy greens, frozen vegetables, or shellfish.
